The metal changes how a ring looks, feels and ages. Here is how we choose with clients.
18K yellow gold
Warm, light, never needs plating. Best for vintage-style and warm skin tones. Costs mid-range. Read our deeper gold-vs-platinum comparison.
18K white gold
Bright white, but rhodium-plated. Re-plate every 18–24 months ($40). Best if you want the platinum look at gold price.
PT950 platinum
Dense, cool, ages to a soft matte. No plating ever. Costs 1.5–2x gold. Best for heirloom wedding bands and people who love weight.
925 silver
Cheap, bright, tarnishes. We use it for design pieces, not daily-wear rings. If you need silver, budget for regular polishing.
